I am looking for information on Quintus (Quint) Whitmore (1856-1922). He was a magician, performed Punch and Judy, musician, fire eater and had his own traveling show. His stepmother, Celia Stowe, was reportedly related to the Stowe family of circus fame. He was reported to have traveled with the Stowe Brothers, Barnum and Bailey, Forepaugh, and W. W Cole. I suspect in the side shows.

His obituary said that “in delirium, was hauling at invisible ropes in an effort to raise a phantom tent. ‘Let’s not be late this time, boys. Let’s jump in and get her up in a jiffy.’ He called as he worked with the fancied ‘Big top.’” A circus man to the end.

    Thanks for the help.

Have you checked in Billboard and New York Clipper, also the recent book about Punch and Judy show presenters?  The last cited has cameo bios for many performers.  If you have no access to the journals [digitized, with key word searching on ProQuest, Clipper also on Illinois Digital Newspapers Archive], there are many abstracts from the journals on the CHS classic website.  Digitized newspapers are the other typical source for anecdotal information.
